If you have a question about liquid screed, our liquid screed FAQ is the right place to be…

What is liquid screed?

It is a machine pumped liquid made up of finer aggregates. It’s an essential building component that is laid on top of a concrete sub-base and provides a smooth sturdy finish. More about screeds

How long does liquid screed take to dry?

1mm per day for the first 40mm and 0.5mm per day thereafter. There are some products which have faster drying times.

What is liquid screed used for?

Liquid screed can be used for all commercial and domestic projects. Floor finishing, incorporating under floor heating pipes and leveling floors for example.

How much does liquid screed cost?

Between £200-£400 per cubic metre. This varies with quantities.

How long does liquid screed take to dry before tiling?

If the screed is 40mm thick it would be 40 days. There are some fast drying products that are dry within 21 days.

What is liquid screed made of?

Cement based liquid screed is made from sand and cement.
Anhydrate liquid screeds are a mix of gypsum-based binder, additives, aggregates and water. This product is 100% recyclable and completely VOC (volatile organic compound) free!

How thin can liquid screed be?

This all depends on what you are coverining. If you are going over underfloor heating you would need around 40-50mm depth of screed. If not you can go down to as little as 15mm (unbonded) or if bonded, down to 1-2mm with some products.

How thick should liquid screed be?

This all depends on the particular project. Liquid screed is best used on top of your sub-base. The sub-base would be concrete with insulation on top, with liquid screed on top of that. This gives it better thermal conductivity.
When using underfloor heating with liquid screeds you’re also better doing it this way as the screeded floor will heat up and cool down quicker.
