What is concrete pumping?

Concrete pumping is a way to move concrete from one place to another using a machine. This makes moving the concrete cleaner, easier and far less time consuming than barrowing.

How far can you pump concrete?

OLCO’s piston line pump can pump concrete around 150 metres. This means that we can reach the furthest locations from a structure with relative ease, allowing concrete to be delivered wherever it’s required.

What is pumped concrete used for?

Pumped concrete can be used for all commercial and domestic projects. Floor slabs for houses or commercial factories. footings for extensions and new build houses, for example. Concrete pumping is invariably the best method.

What does pumping concrete cost?

Starting price for the pump and operator starts at £350 +vat per day but can vary depending on the job.

Why do you need a concrete pumping contractor?

Because hiring a competent contractor makes life (and the project) so much easier when when it comes to moving the concrete. A trained OLCO operator will use the machinery and provide the skills necessary so that the job will be completed to the highest standards.

Are there different types of concrete pumps?

There is a line pump that can be truck mounted or on a trailer and these are ideal for horizontal pumping. A boom pump is truck mounted and helps deliver concrete at heights. Further concrete pump information

How long does pumped concrete take to dry?

Most concrete needs 24-48hrs before you walk or lay on it. It takes concrete 28 days to cure.

How much pumped concrete do I need?

Measure length x width x depth to arrive at a total amount in m3. Use our concrete calculator to make this easy.

What are the main problems you can face when pumping concrete

The main problems are access and blockages.
With the use of flexible hoses and steel pipes we can get concrete to anywhere needed. 
We grout our pipes before every job to assist the concrete to move smoothly through the pipes. We also meticulously clean all the machinery and pipe work after use – most important for preventing problems at the outset.

How does a concrete pump work?

Concrete comes from the batching plant to the desired address. it will then get loaded into a hopper on the back of a pump truck. From the hopper there is a line made up of hoses to the desired location of the concrete. The machine then pumps the concrete using piston pumps along the hoses and to the location needed.

What do I need to know before hiring you to concrete pump?

We need to know times the concrete will arrive, the mix being used, the quantity and the length of line needed. We also need to know if we are laying the concrete or just supplying the pump and operator.

Can you pump concrete in winter?

Yes! You can pump concrete in winter. Cold weather means that the concrete may take longer to cure, however.

Can you pump concrete through a house? 

Yes you can pump concrete through a house…and this is something we do regularly. We can put things down to help reduce the risk of damage and do our very best to ensure this type of circumstance is handled with utmost respect for personal property. Sometimes it’s the only option available to get concrete to a location.
